Eighteen Early Childhood Development (ECD) Practitioners, in the Saldanha Bay Municipal area, are being privately funded to receive accredited training, designed to upskill and improve formative education for young children, in preparation for formal schooling.

Xabiso Mfabana, from the Eastern Cape’s Cookhouse community, is part of a cohort of young graduates from the Wind Turbine Service Technician (WTST) programme.  He has also recently taken up employment with Suzlon, Cookhouse Wind Farm’s Operations and Maintenance Contractor, and partner, in this joint development initiative that is providing skills training for youth in the wind power sector.

EIMS Africa’s portfolio company, Umoya Energy Wind Farm, situated on the West Coast (Western Cape), has taken the lead on improving the country’s wind industry approach to conserving avifauna. Previously known as Hopefield Wind Farm, the country’s first REIPPPP project, the wind farm has successfully implemented blade painting, as a mitigation measure.

A handover of an Aquaponics system to the Namaqua Child and Youth Care Centre took place recently as part of an Eco-School initiative. In addition to enhancing food security, this initiative is also designed to develop skills, with 14 participants receiving accredited advanced training through its implementation.

The South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA), has issued a statement of support for President Ramaphosa’s leadership and firm commitment to fixing the country’s electricity crisis, as stated in his SONA last week (9 February 2023). 

In mid-January a group of 13 international students studying Aerospace, Electrical, and Computer Engineering at the Grainger College of Engineering, part of the University of Illinois, United States of America, visited Klipheuwel Wind Farm in Caledon.

With financial and mentoring assistance, a Matjieskloof community member, Mrs Wendy Hendricks has been able to equip and grow a laundry business that provides local employment and services to this small town and surrounding communities. It is hoped that the business will be able to expand enough to rent premises in Springbok, which will attract more customers and offer more jobs.

Using sports to empower the Noupoort youth to lead positive lives and to raise awareness of drug abuse, bullying, and other social ills, the Olympiakos Football Club have launched the ‘Save the Noupoort Child’ initiative.
