The South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) commends the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) for its decision to initiate Bid Window 7 (BW7) under the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).

Recognising the role of social development in shaping the future of young minds, an initiative aimed at reducing school dropout rates by helping learners make better choices is now in year two of implementation. Facilitated by a qualified social worker, this initiative is designed to positively impact over 1000 learners, across 11 primary schools in the Eastern Cape.

Tablets were donated to the highest-achieving grade 7 learners at Loeriesfontein Primary School, aiming to motivate academic excellence. The tablets, made possible through the support of the Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms, were handed-over to the deserving learners during the school's graduation ceremony on 9 November 2023.

Eight community members hailing from the Witzenberg area have recently reaped the rewards of a Supplier Development Programme. This initiative, conducted over the course of one week in August 2023, was designed to empower local entrepreneurs.

In a significant boost to local environmental efforts, 'Bats and Birds Services', a prominent avifauna company based in Noupoort, has secured a generous donation earmarked for the acquisition of a much-needed company vehicle. This development marks a crucial milestone for the community-focused enterprise, founded by five dedicated locals and supported by Noupoort Wind Farm.

As part of a comprehensive developmental programme, focused on the upliftment of the Thornhill community, a 100% black women-owned SMME has been receiving support and funding from Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm.
