The South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) has announced its new Board of Governance, following its 11th Annual General Meeting held in Cape Town, 27 January 2023. As the country accelerates its energy transition and pushes for energy security, the men and women who hold positions on this board will be charged with steering and advocating for wind.

The South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) is hoping to convince Eskom to conduct an independent technoeconomic assessment of whether there is potential to extract more capacity from the constrained grid in the Cape provinces after none of the 23 wind projects that participated in the most recent public procurement round were appointed as a preferred bidder.

The second Wind Industry Internship Programme (WIIP) has announced that it will double its placements for 2023 and offer supplementary work readiness training for the first time.  The programme supports the development of specialist skills needed to facilitate the exponential growth of the industry, to support the country’s growth.

Two high school learners from the communities of Humansdorp and Patensie, have been selected to receive bursaries to attend Marlow Agricultural High School in Cradock and will begin their studies this week. This forms part of an agricultural bursary programme aimed at providing financial support to promising young high-school learners, who have an interest and passion for agriculture.
