Two New Recipients Granted Scholarships for 2024
In a move towards fostering local talent and contributing to socio-economic development within the Saldanha Bay Municipal area, two deserving students have been granted scholarships as part of an initiative aimed at empowering high school graduates. This initiative is dedicated to providing these individuals with opportunities to further their education and advance their career prospects.
The recipients of this year's scholarships are Michaela Boltman and Choe Williams, both of whom are natives of the Saldanha Bay area. These scholarships will support them as they embark on their higher education journeys in fields critical to both community development and the technical industry.
Michaela is embarking on a Bachelor of Community Development at the University of the Western Cape, while Choe is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
“Receiving this bursary has lifted the financial weight off my shoulders, enabling me to dedicate more time and focus to my studies. It empowers me to engage in activities relevant to Chemical Engineering, paving the way for me to pursue my career goals with confidence,” said Williams.
Funded by Umoya Energy Wind Farm, the Scholarship Fund aims to provide tertiary education funding for youth living within the Saldanha Bay Municipal area, specifically the communities of Hopefield, Langebaan, Vredenburg, Saldanha Bay and St. Helena Bay. The primary objective is to contribute to human resource development in critical fields vital to the South African economy, including Teaching, Engineering, Natural and Social Sciences, Environment, and Nursing.
Looking ahead, Michaela Boltman shared her aspirations, saying, "Upon completing my studies, I am eager to make a meaningful impact within my community, fostering a safe environment, promoting overall well-being, and inspiring positive growth."
The scholarship covers full tuition fees and is available to South African citizens residing within the Saldanha Bay Municipality who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements. Preference is given to candidates facing financial constraints in pursuing tertiary education. Applicants must be enrolled in full-time studies at accredited institutions.
