Promoting Community Spirit and Athletic Excellence Through Sports
Sports play a crucial role in promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging physical activity, and building essential skills among youths and adults. With this in mind, Kangnas Wind Farm proudly partnered with the Namakwa Sports Council to sponsor a series of exciting rugby and netball tournaments held across the Namakwa region recently. The sponsorship, which provided medals, trophies, and prize money, aimed to recognise and celebrate the dedication and achievements of the region’s talented athletes.
“Sports is a vital tool for both youth and community development. It can create accessible opportunities, encourage social unity, and provide recreational spaces for personal growth and social interaction. Additionally, these tournaments stimulate local economic growth through tourism and events, while developing community leaders and volunteers,” stated Rouchet Daniels, Economic Development Manager for Kangnas Wind Farm.
Through the wind farm’s sponsorship, various sports codes such as rugby, netball, soccer, darts, cricket, and table tennis have benefited. The support has been instrumental in providing the local clubs with the opportunity to earn prize money that could be utilised for transportation, new equipment, and sporting gear.
“The wind farm’s commitment to supporting sports initiatives has fostered a spirit of teamwork and inclusiveness among local teams. The support has created opportunities for youth to develop their skills, promote healthy lifestyles, and build lasting friendships,” shared Aiden Steenkamp, Head Coach of Rangers RFC.
The sponsored events included, Logan Rugby Sevens; Namaqualand Sevens; Namakwaland Fast Fives; Eleonor Louw Fast Fives; Namakwaland Male Netball Tournament; and the Logan Rugby League Finals.
