Loeriesfontein High School Learners Empowered with Career Programme

The 'Knowing Me, Knowing My Future' programme at Loeriesfontein High School plays a pivotal role in preparing over 150 learners for future careers, essential for their long-term success and societal impact. Funded by Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms, this initiative supports students through crucial phases of their educational and career paths by providing targeted training and guidance.

As part of Nzalo Careers' implementation of the training programme, two facilitators were part of the programme to ensure that learners received comprehensive training across various modules tailored to their grade levels.

“The learners found the programme to be highly informative and impactful. It helped broadened their horizons and deepened their understanding of potential career paths after matric. Through the MAP exercise, they gained valuable insights into their abilities and felt more confident assessing their strengths,” stated Loeriesfontein High School Principal, Charles Wylie.

For grades 8 to 10, learners explored effective study methods, aligned their subject choices with career aspirations, and set five-year goals using an A3 roadmap. Grades 11 to 12 focused on leadership, emotional intelligence, and career mapping, fostering self-discovery and professional planning.

“We learned a lot about how to continue our studies and plan for the future. The presenters helped us feel more confident, especially in English, and now we feel more positive about using it as a second language. The programme also gave us a better sense of responsibility for our schoolwork and even helped with our physical activities,” said one of the learners.

The programme provided numerous benefits, including enhanced interpersonal effectiveness and self-efficacy, increased self-esteem and motivation, development of leadership skills, maximised career awareness and access to opportunities for societal success. It broadened learners’ knowledge, skills, and abilities.
