Loeriesfontein Bursary Recipients Get Employment
Anna Pieters and Grantham Nel, both recipients of the local wind farm's bursary programme, have recently completed their Bachelor of Education degrees. What's even more exciting is that they have subsequently both been appointed at Loeriesfontein Primary School, keeping their skills and talents within the local community.
As former head girl and head boy at the school, Anna and Grantham are pleased to be offered this position, which was made possible through funding by Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms. They will serve as the new School Governing Body (SGB) Foundation and Intermediate Phase educators, respectively. “The reason I chose to become a teacher is because I want to make a positive difference in the lives of children. I am grateful to be able to work with teachers who taught me and to be able to give back to my old primary school,” said Grantham.
Anna completed her B Ed degree at CPUT, while Grantham completed his B Ed degree at Stellenbosch University - both of whom completed their degrees last year. “Given the high costs associated with tertiary studies, many students aren’t able to afford to attend a higher education institution. Our bursary programme provides an opportunity for our community’s youth to access and achieve qualifications through accredited institutions,” explained Vanessa Fredericks, Economic Development Manager for Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farm, funders of this bursary programme, as part of its broader Socio-Economic Development initiative. The programme is currently sponsoring a total of 10 local students. Applicants for the bursary must meet the following criteria before they can apply: the applicant must be a South African Citizen; must reside in Loeriesfontein (Proof of residence is required); must have been accepted to study at a public South African tertiary institution inclusive of Universities, TVETs, and FET Colleges; and applicants are required to submit a complete application along with the necessary supporting documents.
