Kangnas Wind Farm Welcomes New Junior HSE Officer

Karla Cloete (39), a Springbok local, joined the Kangnas Wind Farm two years ago as the new Junior Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Officer and is assisting Brenda Sidaki, Plant Manager, to prioritise and ensure the safety of its workforce and minimising the impact of this energy facility on the environment.

With a strong commitment to this field, Karla is excited to be part of the team and help ensure the safety of all staff members at this Northern Cape wind farm.  She holds a SAMTRAC, which is a flagship course in occupational health and safety management, as her highest qualifications. “I am passionate about interacting with people and ensuring their well-being, while creating a safe working environment. This role offers me the opportunity to make a positive difference in people's lives, while also having a growing and evolving profession, " said Karla Cloete.

The HSE goal at Kangnas Wind Farm is to have no injuries and no damages in the workplace, and Karla is eager to contribute to this goal by implementing training and awareness programmes for all team members. Its employees receive various training and awareness programmes aimed at reducing risks associated with the Plant.  These programmes include first aid training, firefighting, snake handling, SHE representative training, incident management and investigation, evacuation warden, housekeeping, environmental matters, electrical tools, general safety, PPE, and plant safety regulations. "There is no feeling like knowing people who are in the workplace will return safely to their families. We all have a responsibility to create a positive and safe culture in the workplace," concluded Brenda Sidaki, Kangnas Wind Farm Plant Manager.
