Empowering Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs with Digital Literacy Training

Fifteen aspiring businesswomen from Noupoort recently came together to celebrate Women’s Month by participating in a ‘Women in Digital Business’ training event. This initiative addressed the need for SMMES to harness the power of digital tools, offering vital skills to business operations.

“By empowering more women entrepreneurs to enter the digital economy, this initiative aims to break down barriers and help participants thrive in the global marketplace. This not only promotes sustainable development but also contributes to a more inclusive and equitable local economy,” said Sandisiwe Mntonintshi, Economic Development Manager for Noupoort Wind Farm, which funded this event.

The ‘Women in Digital Business’ training was created to meet the need for women-owned businesses in the community to utilise the power of digital platforms, empowering participants to unlock their full potential in this space.

Mrs Victress Ntombizethu Siko of Business Ezone Ventures, the programme's implementers, highlighted the broader impact of empowering women in the digital landscape, stating, "Empowering women in digitalisation provides them with greater access to markets, knowledge, and flexible working arrangements. There is strong empirical evidence that higher levels of gender equality are associated with positive outcomes in income, economic growth, and competitiveness."

The training covered a range of topics essential for modern business success, including: Building an Online Store; Selling Online: eCommerce Strategies; Adapting Business Processes; and Building an Online Presence. As a result of this programme, participants will be able to create and maintain an online business presence that attracts customers and broadens their market reach.

"The training was invaluable and it helped me gain knowledge in digital marketing that will help me excel and improve my business. Looking ahead, I will implement what I’ve learned by using digital tools such as social media and networking sites to create brand awareness and grow my business," shared Somilangaye Gasmeyi, participant and Director of Unwind Express, a local makeup and beauty company.
