Career Open Day Empowers Grade 12 Learners
Aimed at inspiring and informing, a Career Open Day was recently held in Springbok for Grade 12 learners to explore educational opportunities and support. Funded by Kangnas Wind Farm, the event gathered nearly 100 students from the surrounding local communities.
The purpose of the event was to provide learners with insights into the various opportunities available to them through this wind farm’s educational initiatives, including bursaries that are funded to address financial barriers.
“The importance of such initiatives cannot be overstated. Many students face significant financial barriers that prevent them from pursuing their educational goals. Bursaries play a critical role in easing these burdens, allowing students to concentrate on their studies without the constant worry of funding. These bursaries not only increase access to education for students from low-income backgrounds or underrepresented groups but also foster educational equity and opportunity,” explained Rouchet Daniels, Economic Development Manager for Kangnas Wind Farm.
Attendees had the chance to engage with key stakeholders, including representatives from Xhaus Development, NCR TVET College, and StudyTrust, who were present to share resources and guidance.
The NCR TVET College promoted its campus offerings and provided essential information about study opportunities, bursary options, and application processes. Meanwhile, StudyTrust shared detailed information regarding the Kangnas Bursary Scheme, including eligibility requirements, application procedures, and important deadlines. Xhaus Development further supported the learners by conducting psychometric tests to help them identify the study fields best suited to their strengths and interests.
"These events are very beneficial and needed in our communities because they provide a platform for learners to get information on tertiary institutions, available bursaries as well as requirements and application processes. Furthermore, it helps learners to make informed career choices,” stated Juandre Mentor from Xhaus Development.
