Bursary Programme Opens up a World of Possibilities for Students
Together with the District Municipality and other stakeholders, Kangnas Wind Farm, funders of a local bursary programme, gathered for a meet and greet event with a cohort of 11 beneficiary students. Together with the District Municipality and other stakeholders, Kangnas Windfarm aims to extended the programme beyond the initially intended years of tertiary funding to provide support to the students, in order to assist in securing work placements for practical training, upon completion of their academic studies.
“With Springbok being a rural town, access to tertiary education is very limited. Without assistance from financial support, students may not afford to attend a higher education institution. It is therefore our goal to empower and support the youth of the community to be successful and make a difference,” explained Rouchet Daniels, Economic Development Manager for Kangnas Wind Farm. Attended by the Department of Education and representatives of both the Nama-Khoi and the District Municipality, the event was an opportunity for the Kangnas Wind Farm team to meet the students and learn about their progress and challenges, but most importantly, to motivate them. This year, one new recipient joined the programme, and one student successfully graduated last year with a Diploma in Early Childhood Development. “Know that life is not always fair and that you will fail often, but always remember to never give up,” said Blanche Parring, student, and beneficiary. During the event, the Kangnas staff also conducted interviews with the students that will be broadcasted on the local radio station. Each student got the opportunity to introduce themselves and to tell the guests what they are studying and about their journey so far. The student cohort is studying across a broad spectrum of fields including BCom Sports Management, BEd, Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSocSc), Bachelor of Education Foundation Phase, BA in Humanities, Early Childhood Development, and even Nursing amongst others.
