Investment in Teachers Strengthens Education in Loeriesfontein

Leticia Swart is one of four educators at Loeriesfontein Primary School supported by the local wind farms in Loeriesfontein,  an investment that is making a visible difference in local schools. Currently teaching Afrikaans Home Language to Grades 5 and 7 and Life Skills to Grade 6, Leticia is passionate about creating a positive and supportive learning environment for every learner in her classroom.

Funded by Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms, this initiative forms part of the wind farms’ Socio-Economic Development Programme. With a strong focus on education, the programme prioritises teacher funding, skills development, and literacy and STEM support. The investment plays a critical role in reducing learner–teacher ratios, strengthening classroom capacity, and enhancing the overall quality of teaching and learning at foundation, intermediate and senior phase levels.

“The Wind farms have made a significant difference to my role and daily teaching experience. They provide valuable financial support to our school, which helps improve resources, facilities, and learning materials. This support allows us to create a more effective and positive learning environment for our learners. As a result, I am better equipped to focus on teaching and supporting my learners in the best possible way,” said Swart.

At Loeriesfontein Primary School, the support extends beyond Swart to three additional educators, namely Mr Ryk who teaches English First Additional Language and Social Science to Grade 7 learners; Mrs Koopman who teaches Afrikaans Huistaal to Grades 5 and 7; Mrs Nel who leads Grade 2B; and Mrs Burden who teaches Grade 3B. Together, these educators strengthen learning across key phases, ensuring learners receive focused attention and subject-specific support.

Beyond staffing support, the wind farms also fund the Mathematics Curriculum Online programme for Grades 3 to 7. The programme strengthens maths skills through interactive online exercises that provide real-time feedback. Recognising the need for additional support to manage the programme effectively, Principal Mrs Klaaste successfully requested funding for an assistant teacher, who is now in her third year at the school.

“Education is one of the most powerful investments we can make in the future of Loeriesfontein. By supporting local educators, we are not only strengthening classrooms today but also helping to build confident, capable young people who will shape the community tomorrow. We are proud to stand alongside our schools and teachers in creating meaningful, long-term impact,” explained Vanessa Fredericks, Economic Development Manager for Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms.

The support extends to Loeriesfontein High School, where two young female teachers, Miss van den Heever and Miss Phoni and a general worker, Mr Koose are also funded. This not only strengthens academic delivery but ensures the school remains a safe and well-maintained environment for learners.

For Swart, the investment means more than resources. “It reminds us that we are not alone in building a brighter future for our children. When educators are supported, learners thrive, and when learners thrive, the whole community benefits,” she said.

Through this continued investment in education, the wind farms are helping lay a strong foundation for long-term growth and opportunity in Loeriesfontein.
