As we conclude the third quarter, we reflect on notable regulatory and policy advancements, including the ERA Amendment Bill being signed into law, consultations on NERSA’s wheeling framework, submissions for BESIPPPP BW2 and Bid Window 7, Public forums on NTCSA’s Transmission Development Plan and the SA Wholesale Electricity Market Code being advanced. 

As we conclude another successful Windaba, South Africa’s premier wind energy conference, we are filled with immense pride. This year’s event reaffirmed Windaba as a cornerstone of our industry’s calendar, with over 130 speakers, 950 delegates, and 40 exhibitors coming together to address the challenges facing South Africa’s energy future. 

In August, the energy sector celebrated the Electricity Regulation Amendment Bill being promulgated. The Amendment Bill sets out to create a competitive and sustainable electricity sector to transform, and ultimately better capacitate the energy sector to meet our South Africa’s energy needs. 

South Africa’s Government of National Unity (GNU) appears to be establishing a stable and effective framework. We at SAWEA are heartened by the encouraging messages from President Ramaphosa and Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, in support of renewable energy.
