Main Purpose of Role
The Communications and Design Specialist will be responsible for driving effective member communication, creating compelling content, and ensuring consistent brand messaging across all platforms. This role requires a creative professional with strong communication skills and a solid understanding of graphic design to develop visually appealing and engaging materials that resonate with members and stakeholders.
Main responsibilities
1. Member Communication:
- Develop and manage communication strategies to keep members informed and engaged.
- Create newsletters, email campaigns, and updates tailored to the needs of members.
- Coordinate the dissemination of important announcements and updates to members in a timely manner.
- Understanding the member's needs and preferences to design materials that effectively convey the intended message.
2. Content Development:
- Write and edit clear, engaging, and professional copy for various communication platforms (emails, website, social media, reports, etc.).
- Develop content that aligns with organizational objectives and resonates with target audiences.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to define communication objectives and create designs that support strategic and advocacy efforts.
3. Brand Management and Visual Communication:
- Ensure brand consistency and alignment with CI Manual on all SAWEA collateral.
- Manage and update member-facing sections of the website and digital platforms.
- In collaboration with internal SAWEA team, design visual materials such as infographics, invitations, brochures, presentations, reports, and digital assets that communicate complex ideas in a clear and engaging way
- Collaborate with internal SAWEA team to produce high-quality presentations and communication materials for events and stakeholder engagements.
4. Administrative Support:
- Assist with administrative duties, correspondence, and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the coordination of internal projects, initiatives, and events.
5. Additional Duties:
- Perform any other duties as delegated by the Chief Communications Officer and the Chief Executive Officer.
Skills
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling and professional content for diverse audiences.
- Graphic Design: Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or Canva, with an eye for detail and aesthetics.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with website management (e.g., GlueUp or similar CMS tools) and digital marketing tools.
- Organisational Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently or collaboratively as needed.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Strong interpersonal skills to foster relationships with members, partners, and external stakeholders.
- Brand Awareness: Ability to ensure brand consistency across all materials and communications.
- Problem Solving: Proactive and resourceful in addressing challenges and identifying creative solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree or 3-year Diploma in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- 3–5-year proven experience in member communications, reputation management, content creation, or a similar role.
- Prior experience in a membership-based organisation or the renewable energy sector will be advantageous.
- Basic knowledge of renewable energy and advocacy.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or 3-year Diploma in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- 3–5-year proven experience in member communications, reputation management, content creation, or a similar role.
- Prior experience in a membership-based organisation or the renewable energy sector will be advantageous.
- Basic knowledge of renewable energy and advocacy.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Remuneration: R360k per annum
Location: Rosebank, Johannesburg
Duration: A duration of 36 months, with the possibility of extension.
