SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAMME CONTINUES ON WEST COAST FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN

Hundreds of vulnerable children and their families, from the Western Cape’s West Coast areas are still receiving daily cooked meals, safeguarding that they don’t go hungry during the lockdown. This has been made possible through private funding and permission granted by the Department of Social Development, to the Peninsula School Feeding Programme (PSFP) as an essential service. The PSFP received authorisation in line with the national lockdown regulations, to continue serving cooked meals at schools during COVID-19 lockdown.

LOCAL SEAMSTRESS SET UP TO MAKE MASKS

Marinda Mankapan, a local seamstress from the small Witzenberg town of Ceres, has successfully registered a small business to make protective masks. She started producing cloth masks to help local community members last month and has now increased her production to supply a factory in the Agriculture sector, and a local spaza shop in Ceres, who is donating masks to local community members in need.

SUPPORT AND RELIEF FOR VULNERABLE FAMILIES

Klipheuwel Wind Farm has responded to a call from Red Cross Greyton, to help provide relief in the form of food parcels to vulnerable families in the communities of Genadendal, Voorstekraal, Bereaville, Boschmanskloof, Heuwelkroon and Greyton.

STUDENTS RECEIVE COMPUTER EQUIPMENT TO HELP LOCKDOWN STUDIES

With tertiary institutions in lockdown, due to COVID-19, many students that don’t have sufficient resources and the necessary equipment, are faced with uncertainty and distress. Luckily for Nezlia Blaauw and five other West Coast scholarship beneficiaries enrolled in the 2020 academic year, she has received equipment, to help her continue her academic work during the national lockdown.

COASTAL-6 WIND FARMS BAN TO PROVIDE FOOD TO STRANDED COMMUNITIES

A collaboration of Eastern Cape coastal wind farms operating in the Kouga municipality area, better known as the Coastal-6, have banned together to respond to the urgent and escalating needs of stranded communities, who are struggling during the country’s COVID-19 lockdown period.
