AGRI-BURSARY LAUNCHED FOR YOUNG HIGH-SCHOOL LEARNERS

Kouga Region, Eastern Cape, December 2021

An agri-bursary programme, aimed at promising young high-school learners from the communities of Humansdorp, Hankey, Patensie, Thornhill and Jeffreys Bay was recently launched. Funded as part of Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm’s socio-economic development programme, this new agricultural bursary programme identifies suitable candidates from high schools and offers them a bursary to attend Marlow Agricultural High School based in Cradock, which is about 3 hours away from Jeffreys Bay. SCHOLARSHIPS GIVE OPPORTUNITIES AND SUPPORT DURING CV-19

William Prezens, 21 years old, from the West Coast community of Hopefield, is studying toward an MBChB (Medicine) at Stellenbosch University, as part of Umoya Energy Wind Farm’s scholarship programme.  One of five beneficiaries of this scholarship programme, William was awarded the Meerhoff Residence 2020 Banquet Awards Certificate of Excellence and Achievement, for his consistent academic achievements, over 3 years.

KIPETO WIND FARM ENTERS INTO INNOVATIVE LOAN AGREEMENT TO FUND BIODIVERSITY

BTE Renewables (BTE), which is an Actis company, alongside Craftskills Limited and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) have arranged a pioneering loan agreement for the Kipeto Wind Power Project (Kipeto), in Kenya. Sourced from TNC and private impact investors, the $10m loan will facilitate funding, over the life of the project, towards implementing local human-wildlife initiatives in the areas surrounding the wind project. The $10 million loan helps bring together multiple parties in the interest of advancing conservation and demonstrating new models of funding.READ MORE

SMME’S CHANGING THE FACE OF NOUPOORT FOR THE BETTER

A cohort of 28 grantees, comprising of SMME’s, non-profit companies and a non-profit organisation have received business funding since November 2021, as part of a programme designed to mobilise communities to gain control over their lives in an impactful and effective manner.  This community SMME acceleration programme is already demonstrating the knock-on effect, proving that it is truly benefitting the Noupoort community as a whole and not only the grantees.READ MORE

The Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF) 2022 academic year has opened and is available to students living within a 50km radius of Jeffreys Wind Farm, in the Kouga Municipal area, part of the Sarah Baartman District Municipality.  The GSF, funded by Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm, directly benefits students from the communities of Humansdorp, Hankey, Patensie, Thornhill and Jeffreys Bay.READ MORE

PINK DRIVE IN LOERIESFONTEIN TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY HEALTH

Health took centre stage in Loeriesfontein during September, with a two-day health drive focused on screening, early detection and health education for eighty community members. Funded by Khobab Wind Farm and Loeriesfontein Wind Farm, in collaboration with the PinkDrive and the Department of Health, a full range of early detection and preventative health screening services were offered to the community.
