WIND FARM BENEFICIARY PROGRAMMES TO EXTEND TO TOWNS IN 50KM RADIUS

Umoya Energy Wind Farm, situated close to the historic West Coast town of Hopefield, is home to one of South Africa’s first wind farms. This wind farm’s flagship programme has been benefiting the residents of Hopefield but, with this programme scheduled to draw to a close during 2019, a strategic focus has been placed on expanding socio-economic initiatives to the greater 50km radius towns, which includes Saldanha Bay Local Municipality; Bergriver Municipality, specifically Piketberg; and Swartland Muncipality, specifically the area of Moorreesburg.READ MORE

ENOCH MTHETHO HIGH SCHOOL – MATHS AND SCIENCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Learners at Enoch Mthetho High School in Noupoort have been benefiting from the state-of-the-art Maths and Science laboratory that was funded by Noupoort Wind Farm in 2017. With the ongoing support and guidance of Noupoort Wind Farm and the Department of Basic Education, this school encourages its learners to take up Physical Science as a subject, driving the development of STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) subjects, to instil learner confidence.READ MORE

BURSARIES FOR LOERIESFONTEIN YOUTH AIM TO BUILD CAPACITY AND PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES

The Khobab Wind Farm’s bursary programme seeks to provide post-school study opportunities, particularly for local youth.  However, it also has a long term goal.  “It is our hope that our tertiary bursary programme will be able to eventually focus on STEM subjects, such as engineering, accounting and sciences, but until the mathematics and science base grows amongst tertiary school leavers, we are committed to providing opportunities to as many community members as is possible, without being limiting or prescriptive,” said Vanessa Fredericks, Economic Development Manager for Khobab Wind Farm.READ MORE

TRANSFORMING THE ENERGY SECTOR THROUGH SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING
